Fishing
at Chokoloskee is the number one park activity, and
as these images show, the fishing is fantastic.
The
variety of fish
species is vast and includes Redfish (Red Drum), Snook,
Tarpon, Pompano, Grouper (several varieties), Snapper, Permit,
Jacks, Spanish Mackeral, Black Drum, Ladyfish, Blacktip Sharks,
Bonnethead Sharks, Spotted and Silver Sea Trout, Flounder,
Bluefish, Cobia, Catfish, and more.
Many
fisherman release their catch, but many others eat their keepers.
Many
of the park residents own their own boats and kayaks, and
numerous vendors nearby offer boat and kayak rentals including
JT's
Outfitters across the street from the park entrance. Guide
and charter services are available including Finesse
Charters, Chokoloskee
Charters, and various services in nearby Everglades City
and beyond. Canoe
rentals and guided tours are available at the Everglades
National Park Gulf Coast Visitors Center, and kayak fishing
expeditions can be arranged through Everglades
Kayak Fishing.
