Chokoloskee Island Park began what many hope is a new tradition with their 2010 Fishing Derby, held for the first time in February. CIP members were invited to sign up by boat for a modest cash donation. Prizes were awarded for the greatest combined weight of trout landed by a boat, up to a maximum of five trout per boat.
